In the first issue of Call of the Totem, Tarjung returns to the village, from which he was banished, after his son, Riven, gets a mysterious rash. Finding out that his son has been chosen by the village's next totem, or guardian spirit, in which to inhabit, Tarjung must prepare his son to embark on a mysterious quest from which he may never return.
 
Call of the Totem #2 finds Riven entering the spiritual dimension where all of its creatures can sense the totem growing inside him and seek to consume it, so they can grow in power.  
 
Alpha, the leader of a wolf pack trapped within the dimension, immediately begins the chase.  If he can consume the young totem, then he may gain the power to escape into the real world. But others within his pack have other plans. 
 
Unable to risk losing his son, Tarjung follows his son through the bonfire in the hope of giving his son a fighting chance to survive.
