The Games that Started It All!
In 1869, the country was recovering from a divisive civil war and primed for a looming industrial revolution. The young men of two New Jersey colleges, Rutgers and The College of New Jersey (now Princeton), represented a microcosm of the feelings and sentiments sweeping the nation. It was under these conditions that a familiar rivalry would play out.

Little did the players from those schools know that those football games in November of 1869 would spark a revolution which would last into the present day. What was meant to be just another contest in deciding the preeminent college in the Garden State, turned out to be so much more. That these events, played out on grass gridirons over those two weeks, would change American life forever.
